At eceee 2024, we presented SEED MICAT results through two insightful presentations- the MICATool's methodology in “The Rule of Thumb Reigning Over the Land of Data Scarcity,” and its link to the EE1st principle and EE policy impacts in “Integrating Multiple Benefits into Reporting on Energy and Climate Policies.” An informal session provided deeper insights into the MICATool, covering planned features like supply-side integration and gathering feedback on usability.

The ENEFIRST Plus webinar brought together discussions from the SEED MICAT and Regio1st projects to evaluate whether the integration of the EE1st principle in National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs) has improved in the draft updates compared to the initial NECPs. The session also explored ways to further enhance this integration. During the webinar, the results of the SEED MICAT project were presented, and the role of the MICATool in supporting the implementation of the EE1st principle in NECPs was discussed in detail.

RE-energising Europe – Understanding the future of energy demand and its policy implications through new societal trends, behavioural aspects and multiple benefits – Discussions, high-level panels, poster session and field visit organised by 7 EU-funded projects! Taking place in Brussels (Atelier 29) on 24-25 October, the event is bringing together speakers from EU institutions, project representatives and key players of the energy market.

During MICAT’s first formal session of the 2022 eceee Summer study, Wuppertal Institute’s Chun Xia-Bauer presented the extended abstract ‘Beyond Energy Savings – Quantifying the Multiple Impacts of Energy Efficiency Improvements‘ while Florin Vondung explained the architecture of the energy poverty alleviation indicator of the soon to be released MICATool.

Three cities – Calvià, Vitoria-Gasteiz, and Tartu – were selected by the MICAT project team as MICATool Pilot Cities to co-develop and validate the tool to be developed by the project. The MICATool is intended to help the cities by supporting decision-makers to gain better insights into energy policy impacts, making monitoring and reporting on energy efficiency measures and policy impacts more comprehensive and accessible to a wider audience, demonstrating and communicating the multiple benefits of energy efficiency, and last but not least assessing the economic benefits of energy efficiency measures.

The first city workshop with the piloting city Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain) took place to discuss the possibilities of embedding the MICATool into local policy, alongside MICAT partners and tool developers from the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI, Wuppertal Institute as well as IIASA.
