SEED MICAT at EUSEW 2026: Bringing Evidence to the Future of Energy Efficiency Policy

21. April 2026

SEED MICAT is proud to announce its participation in the 2026 edition of the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) 2026, one of Europe’s leading platforms for shaping the clean energy transition.

SEED MICAT is proud to announce its participation in the 2026 edition of the European Sustainable Energy Week 2026, one of Europe’s leading platforms for shaping the clean energy transition.

This year, SEED MICAT will contribute to a high-level policy session bringing together key EU-funded projects and policymakers to reflect on the future of energy efficiency in Europe—particularly in the context of the post-2030 framework.

A timely discussion for Europe’s energy future

In recent years, the EU has made significant progress through the Fit for 55 package, notably with the revision of the Energy Efficiency Directive and the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. While these advancements have strengthened the policy landscape, their growing complexity can sometimes slow down implementation on the ground.

At the same time, energy savings and flexibility have proven critical in responding to recent energy crises, reinforcing the strategic importance of energy efficiency. Yet challenges remain—particularly around energy affordability and the increasing complexity of the energy system for citizens.

Against this backdrop, the preparation of the post-2030 energy efficiency framework presents a unique opportunity: to refocus the discussion on what works, grounded in data, evidence, and real-world experience.

SEED MICAT’s contribution

SEED MICAT will bring its expertise on the multiple impacts of energy efficiency to the discussion. Representing the project, Niklas Reinfandt - our project coordinator from Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI, will highlight how energy efficiency delivers benefits far beyond energy savings—spanning economic, social, and environmental dimensions.

These insights are crucial to strengthening the narrative around energy efficiency, making it not only a technical solution but an attractive and strategic policy choice.

A collaborative effort across EU projects

The session brings together leading EU-fund LIFE projects such as SEED MICAT along with:

Together with EU and national policymakers, the discussion will explore:

  • The real contribution of energy efficiency to the EU energy balance
  • How to better communicate its multiple benefits
  • Practical examples of implementing the Energy Efficiency First principle
  • Ways to simplify energy savings for citizens at local and regional level
  • Opportunities to scale up good practices across Europe

From complexity to clarity

As Europe prepares its next phase of energy policy, ensuring that energy efficiency remains visible, understandable, and actionable is essential.

By combining robust data with practical examples, this session aims to cut through complexity and support a more accessible, impactful policy framework—one that keeps energy efficiency at the core of a clean, secure, and competitive Energy Union.

👉 Stay tuned for updates and insights from EUSEW 2026, and follow SEED MICAT as we continue to demonstrate the full value of energy efficiency across Europe.
