On Thursday, 17 June 2021, the first city workshop on the MICATool for the local level took place. Under the heading of "Embedding the MICATool into local policy" the MICAT team, consisting of the tool developers from the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI and Wuppertal Institute as well as IIASA, gathered together with the piloting city Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain).

Three different city departments – planning and projects, economic development, sustainability climate and energy – as well as Centre for Environmental Studies and city’s urban rehabilitation company joined the workshop. The discussion covered a broad spectrum of areas where the city aims to make an impact, based on its Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) as well as its Agenda 2030 (SDGs). The working sessions culminated in the identification and prioritization of indicators that were deemed most useful and feasible to implement in terms of data availability.

As part of the first round of workshops, the other two MICATool pilot cities Tartu (Estonia) and Calvia (Spain) are following suite in the next couple of weeks. Overall three workshops at the local level are planned throughout the project.
